Police Track Down Stolen $575,000 Ferrari Using AirPods Left in the Car
Police in the United States have recovered a stolen 2023 Ferrari worth $575,000 by following the Bluetooth signal of its left-behind AirPods. According to Apple Insider, the AirPods were linked back to a suspect's iPhone, which was dropped by him when he fled from the vehicle. The thief, Dion Shontten, 22, from Waterbury, has been arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Another accomplice, 19-year-old Kyion Webster, was also apprehended. Both individuals were found to have taken turns driving the stolen car. Fernando Spaniolo, chief of police in Waterbury, noted that Webster already had seven prior convictions related to auto thefts and other offenses.
The AirPods left behind in the Ferrari allowed law enforcement to track the precise location of the thief through the "Find My" app on his iPhone. This technology enabled the successful recovery of the valuable sports car.
