Proper Maintenance and Usage Tips to Extend Your Laptop's Lifespan
For prolonging the service life of a laptop, it should undergo technical maintenance approximately once a year. According to Kamil Khuziakhmetov, founder of the Russian brand Echips laptops, such maintenance involves regularly checking the laptop for critical dirt and mechanical malfunctions.
"Once a year, you should take your device to a workshop or service center so that it can be disassembled and cleaned since dust and debris enter through the ventilation holes. Additionally, electronic components in laptops are close together; they heat up and potentially dangerous static electricity may form," Khuziakhmetov explained.
To prevent dirt accumulation in ventilation openings, experts recommend using your laptop only on hard surfaces. "Though it's a compact device that is convenient to use on a sofa or on your lap, plush surfaces can be additional sources of dust," he noted.
Another rule relates to cooling. According to the specialist, due to the compact design of laptops, heat dissipation issues will always arise during usage, despite the presence of fans. Particularly if it's actively used for extended periods. To address this problem, one can purchase a special stand that cools the laptop.
Additionally, Khuziakhmetov recommends using a silicone keyboard cover. This accessory is especially useful for people who like to eat while using their computer. The cover not only protects the key-actuation mechanisms from crumbs but also saves the entire laptop in case of a spill.
"One of the most common malfunctions – a waterlogged keyboard. Laptops are always with us everywhere, even on the kitchen counter or at a cafe. A single clumsy movement can result in it being flooded. Even if it's plain non-sugary water, the damage is almost inevitable," he advised.
