Actual Charging Speed of iPhone 16 Falls Short of Advertised 45W Quick Charge
According to independent tests reported by the portal MacRumors, the advertised 45W quick charging capability in the iPhone 16 is not as powerful as it seems.
ChargerLAB indicates that the iPhone 16 Pro Max supports a maximum charging speed of about 30W. Occasionally, with an Apple adapter rated at 140W, the smartphone can reach up to 37W, but this high power output doesn't last long. PhoneArena reported similar results for the base model iPhone 16; during testing, it reached a peak power of 38W, but mainly charged at powers closer to 20W.
Apple claims that all models of the iPhone 16 can be charged to about 50% in roughly 30 minutes with a charger rated at 20W or higher, which is consistent with the charging speeds of last year's iPhone 15. However, there are minor improvements; the iPhone 15 Pro supports maximum charging up to 27W. Apple does not disclose the specific charging power for its devices.
Experts note that despite supporting the USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 protocol at 45W, the iPhone 16 models do not actually charge at this power level.
