Fntastic Studio Seeks Another Chance with Escape Factory on Kickstarter
Peculiarly famous for the survival game The Day Before, studio Fntastic has recently appealed to players for another chance, and their plea to gamers turned out to be so convincing that the required goal on Kickstarter is almost achieved: from 20,000 Singapore dollars, nearly 15,000 have been raised. However, many doubt the sincerity of the creators behind Escape Factory.
Data miner Occular Malice dug through the free demo version of Escape Factory and discovered numerous free assets from the Unity store within it. These include environmental elements, visual effects, and rendering pipelines. Free assets form the network interactions, lobby, and match creation mechanics.
While using free assets isn't necessarily a bad thing, this is typically done by beginning developers or solo game designers. However, it's considered a poor omen that Fntastic removes discussions about borrowed assets. Additionally, the studio's assurances on Kickstarter are particularly telling.
The Escape Factory campaign will end in 28 days and is likely to be successful. However, themes of accusations of yet another scam arise again and again on Steam — only to disappear without a trace.
