The Second Season of The Last of Us Will Feature an Important Background Story for a Key Character

The upcoming second season of The Last of Us will tell an "important background story" that did not appear in the games for one of the characters.

This was revealed by Neil Druckmann, the creator of the games and co-showrunner of the HBO series, to Variety. In the article, he explains that it's important to understand the differences between games and television - for example, because action-packed gameplay translates differently to a series, and thus certain things are handled differently. For instance, in the first season, during the third episode, the focus was on the lives of Bill and Frank, while players of The Last of Us never meet one of the characters in the game.

The second season will also have its differences, as Druckmann explained. "There are things in this season that I'm really excited about - things we've hinted at. I suspect that there's going to be a scene that fans will really get wild about, because it tells the backstory of an important character. In the game, we didn't really have a way to do that."

While Druckmann did not reveal which character this refers to, many fans speculate that it might be Isaac, the leader of the Washington Liberation Front. The role is portrayed by acclaimed actor Jeffrey Wright in both The Last of Us: Part 2 and the upcoming season of the series. Earlier, set photos leaked that suggested viewers would learn more about the character.

Today is The Last of Us Day (previously known as Outbreak Day), based on the date the virus broke out in the games. The franchise is celebrated every year on September 26. At the time of writing, it is unknown if there will be more to the celebration, although many fans are hoping for the first trailer of the second season of the HBO series The Last of Us, following a teaser that came out recently. The Last of Us: Part 1 is available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium from today.
