Google Introduces a Playful Popcorn Doodle
Google’s logo looks a bit different today than you're used to, as it's all about popcorn. What does that mean? Today is all about popcorn. It's light, the perfect snack for movie time, and above all, it just tastes really good.
The Largest Popcorn Machine Ever
On this day in 2020, the largest popcorn machine ever was created: it was in Thailand, and the record still stands. The contraption is 7.89 meters high, 3.53 meters wide, and 2.83 meters deep and can really pop popcorn—or actually corn. Or rather, we've been turning corn into popcorn since the 16th century. In the United States, it was extremely popular in the 19th century, and that's when the first popcorn machine was made: in 1890.
By now, it's a worldwide favorite snack. We like to eat it sweet or salty (and some people even mix both), but in Japan, they put nori on it. Canada has maple syrup-popcorn, and so does every country have its own preferred or unique taste. Initially, popcorn was a snack but also a whole breakfast: you ate it with milk.
Google Doodle
Google found it a great idea to highlight that special record from Thailand and popcorn as a globally loved phenomenon. The Google Doodle is a fun game where you have to make sure that as a corn kernel, you're the last one to become a beautiful popcorn. So you must stay a regular corn kernel for as long as possible.
Fun fact: Cinemas seem to earn more from popcorn than from showing movies in the United States at least. It's also the first food item made with a microwave and there seems to be a lot of popcorn eaten in autumn: are you hungry yet?
It's a cute game that looks great and which you can play solo or with others. If you want to learn more about Google Doodles, or know what your birthday doodle is, check out the Google Doodle site.
