This 'Iron Man' character was supposed to still be alive and you won't believe who it is

When Iron Man came out in 2008, no one could have imagined how big the Marvel Cinematic Universe would become. Even the biggest fans of the film couldn't predict that.

Ultimately, Robert Downey Jr. played the character of Tony Stark in nine further films. But there was another character from Iron Man that was originally supposed to return.

Iron Monger
It's about Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger, played by Jeff Bridges. In the film as it was released, it seems like the character dies at the end. But that wasn't the original plan.

"Stane attacks at the end in that big vat," says Bridges. "And in the script I read and agreed to, they take my suit off and open it up and I'm not there."

Possible Return
While the final scene in the film doesn't leave Stane's death in doubt, Bridges suggests that a possible return is always possible. "Who knows?" he says. "It's all science fiction and I can pop back up anytime."
