Snapchat Will Use Google's AI Model for Chatbot

Snapchat plans to use technology from Google. Mother company Snap intends to activate Google's Gemini to further expand its chatbot with artificial intelligence. It is intended that Snapchat users can, for example, translate texts on a photo or look up the name of a plant via the chatbot.

Snap invests in new AI capabilities in hopes that users will stay longer on Snapchat. The social media company also wants to compete with larger tech companies like Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.

OpenAI

Last year, Snap already launched its AI chatbot using OpenAI technology, the company behind ChatGPT. Now, Google's AI model is being added because Gemini can process text, video, and audio recordings simultaneously. According to Snap's top executive, Evan Spiegel, this is important because people also frequently send photos and videos via Snapchat in addition to text messages.
