Smart Coffee Mug: It Will Make You a Barista
The thermos mug is equipped with a scale and a filter for ground coffee. This resulted in a gadget that can save coffee lovers on the go.
California startup iKoffy presented GoBrew — a smart mug that will allow you to brew fresh coffee on the road. The company is currently selling the product on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
GoBrew features a 0.3-liter thermos with a base that houses various electronics. On the bottom of the mug are pressure sensors that act as a scale, a 400 mAh battery, a touch panel for control, and a mini-screen that displays the charge and the brewing status.
GoBrew connects to iPhone and Android via Bluetooth. Users need to download a special app that contains various drink recipes. To brew a cup of coffee, you need to select a desired recipe and follow the instructions.
For example, to get one espresso shot, you need to install a metal filter and fill it with ground coffee. GoBrew will then measure how much coffee you have added. Then, you need to pour hot water into the filter, controlling the brewing time and the amount of water. Users can also experiment with recipes and save their unique variations.
The mug has double walls. The outer one is made of plastic, and the inner one is made of stainless steel. A ceramic lining is provided to help better reveal the coffee flavor. GoBrew keeps the drink hot for up to 5 hours thanks to the airtight polycarbonate lid. One charge lasts for a month of daily use.

iKoffy GoBrew is already available for pre-order on Kickstarter. The price is $87. The easy filter needs to be purchased separately for $19. Full sales will start in November 2024.
