Doctors Name the Most Important Parameter for Eye-Safe Monitors

It's not brightness, the type of matrix, or color reproduction. The most important thing for eye health is high refresh rate.

In a conversation with NEWS.ru, ophthalmologist Kirill Svetlakov said that the refresh rate of the matrix in monitors is the most important characteristic for preserving eye health. According to the specialist, the ideal value for a person is 120 Hz. It is necessary to pay attention to this first of all when buying a device, especially if it is used for a long time during the day. Color reproduction, matrix type, and other parameters play a secondary role.

Kirill Svetlakov reported that for comfortable work at a computer (or monitor), the screen refresh rate should be at least 120 Hz, and even better - 144 Hz. The latter is the ideal value for those who work on a computer for a long time. The specialist also clarified that with an increase in the refresh rate, the load on the eyes decreases, and significantly. This is confirmed by research. For example, 60 Hz can lead to eye fatigue and tearing already after 4-5 hours of work.

In conclusion, the ophthalmologist reported that many factors affect eye fatigue. This includes lighting at the workplace, the duration of screen use, the anatomy of the eyes, and so on. However, the refresh rate has a huge impact on their health, so it should not be neglected. At the same time, previously the specialist warned: worsening vision can indicate the presence of a tumor in the brain, hypertension, sclerosis, or hypoglycemia.

Previously, scientists invented smart sutures for wounds that produce electricity. The presence of electrical signals literally accelerates healing.
