Smart Outlets Monitor Home Safety via Wi-Fi
Video cameras are no longer needed for monitoring. The technology works based on wireless signal.
Threshold Care has introduced unusual outlets. They allow you to monitor the movement of people in the apartment. At the same time, the device does not have a camera. For monitoring, it uses a regular Wi-Fi.
The new product called Motion creates a zone in the room that it monitors. It works as follows. The movement of people or animals creates interference in the Wi-Fi signal. The device, using such oscillations, can understand that someone is walking around the apartment and notify the owner about it.
The technology is not for covert surveillance, but for the elderly or disabled. Using a camera to monitor the condition of such people can create discomfort for them. Unusual outlets will help to find out, for example, that someone got up in the middle of the night or suddenly went to some room where there may be danger, such as a hot heater or another appliance.
The Motion kit costs $60 and includes three devices. They need to be connected to a regular outlet, and they have their own input for a plug. All the information processed by the sensors is sent to the iOS or Android app. Owners can view the history of movement of people over the past two weeks, as well as check the data in real time. The main drawback is the lack of smart features. The user cannot turn off the outlet using the app.
Earlier, information appeared that Android smartphones will add a radio function. With it, you can communicate over a large distance using Bluetooth technology. It is already known which device will be the first to receive this feature.
