Casio Releases Classic-Inspired Alarm Clock
The alarm clock fully replicates the design of the Casio wristwatch from the 1990s. The first batch sold out within a few hours.
Casio has released a unique bedside alarm clock inspired by the classic Casio A158 wristwatch from 1989. The design is a faithful replica of the wristwatch, but it's too large to wear. This is a throwback to the 90s for fans of classic design with a touch of nostalgia.
The new model, designated DQD-851J-8JF, is a standard desktop clock with an optional alarm function. The plastic case measures 102 x 117 x 48 mm, and the weight is 185 grams. The rear panel houses the controls, and a substantial battery compartment is located on the back. Large batteries (two AA batteries) are needed to ensure long battery life (up to one year) considering the presence of the watch's signature amber backlight. The clock also has the ability to synchronize time with a radio transmission line.
The last feature is available to residents of Japan and is likely to be non-functional in other countries. Without this synchronization, the average accuracy of the displayed time is no more than 30 seconds per month. In addition to time, the clock displays information such as the day of the week, humidity, and room temperature. Users can set up up to five alarms, each of which can trigger up to 7 times with a 5-minute interval.
Price and Availability
The Casio DQD-851J-8JF went on sale in Japan for ¥4378 or approximately $29.00 based on the current exchange rate.
Previously, Nintendo released a smart alarm clock with Mario inside. The gadget wakes up with melodies from popular games, tracks how often you toss and turn at night, and supports gesture control.
