Samsung Increases Production of 2nm and 1.4nm Chips

Despite criticism for its slow adoption of advanced lithography technologies, Samsung is actively increasing its pace in this area, especially in light of Intel's growing ambitions. The company is preparing to produce 2nm and even 1.4nm chips to keep up with competitors.

Already in early 2024, Samsung's S3 factory in Hwaseong will begin producing 2nm chips, processing up to 7,000 silicon wafers per month. In the second quarter of 2025, the company plans to install equipment for producing 1.4nm chips at the S5 factory in Pyeongtaek, aiming to process between 2,000 and 3,000 wafers per month.

Furthermore, the existing line for producing 3nm chips in Hwaseong will be modernized to produce 2nm products by the end of 2024.

Samsung plans to start mass production of 2nm chips in 2024 and transition to a 1.4nm process in 2027.
