New Intel Core Ultra 200 processors may still require new coolers despite compatibility

In a few days, Intel will introduce Arrow Lake desktop processors, which will again use the new socket - LGA 1851. It is physically identical to the LGA 1700 and its cooling systems are compatible. However, now it became known that there is an important nuance that can spoil this compatibility somewhat.

The fact is that the hottest spot on the Arrow Lake crystal – the so-called Hot Spot – will not be in the same place as Raptor Lake. It will be slightly higher if evaluated in the usual placement of the CPU in a vertical housing.

On average, this is not particularly important, but with extreme overclocking of the top CPUs, this can affect. It can also impair the performance of some individual coolers, which are not as good in contact as the LGA 1700. In particular, liquid CO may be more prone to such a problem, since it is important where the inlet and outlet holes for liquid on the water block are located.
