China's COMAC C919 Passenger Jet Ready to Challenge Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 Outside China
Brazilian Total Linhas Aereas Wants to Buy Four Jets
The first Chinese passenger jet, the COMAC C919, is in high demand with over 1,000 orders and options. However, its appeal extends beyond Chinese airlines. According to FrequentFlyers, the first C919 order outside Asia will go to Brazilian charter airline Total Linhas Aereas. The choice in favor of the Chinese supplier is no coincidence.
Perhaps Brazilians would have been happy to buy Boeing 737s and Airbus A320/321, but due to complexities with supply chains for components, waiting for these planes would take years. The Chinese, however, are ready to deliver the jets as early as spring 2025. This month, Total Linhas Aereas will travel to China to negotiate the purchase of the aircraft.
It's worth noting that previously, the Brazilian airline GallopAir ordered 15 units of the COMAC C919 and COMAC ARJ21. However, the COMAC order by Total Linhas Aereas is noteworthy because Brazil has its own well-known and well-established manufacturer of passenger jetliners – Embraer.
