Depending on how you look at it, there might either be a OnePlus 11 or not a OnePlus 11 Pro, at least according to one prominent leaker.
Max Jambor, who is not one of the most prolific tipsters but has a good track record has posted on Twitter (opens in a new tab) that the next OnePlus flagship will be called the OnePlus 11, and that there will not be a OnePlus 11 Pro alongside it.
If you were looking for pro-grade specs, you should not worry, according to Jambor, as the OnePlus 11 will apparently be the OnePlus 11 Pro in all but name.
The next OnePlus Pro model is OnePlus 11. October 17, 2022.
If this theory holds true there will not be a phone called the OnePlus 11 Pro, but there will also be a phone with the features we would expect from a standard OnePlus 11.
In a follow-up post (opens in a new tab), Jambor claimed that the OnePlus 11 will begin in the first quarter of 2023 (meaning sometime between January and March next year) and suggested that they do not know what they planned beyond that; therefore, it is unlikely that a standard OnePlus 11 will begin later, but if it does, it will seem to need a new name.
Analysis: It''s a confusing naming strategy, but then so is the actual one.
If OnePlus does not ditch the Pro name in 2023, it may dispel potential buyers, who might believe the OnePlus 11 is more of a "standard" flagship than a top-tier one (akin to the iPhone 14 and Google Pixel 7, sat beneath their respective Pro-branded siblings). However, this year OnePlus instead launched a OnePlus 10 Pro, with no OnePlus 10 standard.
This is quite a confusing concept, since it is appropriate to assume that the 10 Pro would be the Pro version of the OnePlus 10 a phone that does not exist.
This concern relates to the fact that previously, OnePlus was launching both standard and Pro models, and the names were then mistaken, but things have become more blurred after the introduction of one flagship model in the first half of the year.
This naming change if it happens helps to resolve one tension while forming another. Regardless of what this upcoming handset is marketed, it will be worth paying attention to, because there is a high possibility that it might be a contender among the best phones out there.
