In this auction, Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vi, and Adani Group were among the four major participants in the 5G spectrum auction in India. The Department of Telecom (DoT) received bids worth Rs. 1.50 lakh crore.

In 13 major cities in India, the first phase of the 5G rollout will take place in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

Reliance Jio is believed to be attempting to achieve the highest 5G rollout in the world. Similarly, Airtel intends to provide pan-India coverage by 2024. Despite such promises, Vi will also bolster its network plans in the near future.

According to a recent survey, Indian consumers are willing to pay up to 45 percent for a 5G upgrade. The country is estimated to have over 100 million users with 5G-ready smartphones.

5G technology is expected to be around ten times faster than its current 4G connectivity. Its low latency rate is likely to benefit mining, storage, and transportation industries, among others.

It is reputed to be highly reliable and energy efficient, suited for learning and skill development using virtual reality/augmented reality. 5G connectivity is said to offer high-quality video services at high speeds. This technology could be used in real-time monitoring of disasters and dronefarming.
