During the first 36 hours of Amazon India''s festive season sale, Amazon India said it had recorded a two-fold increase in its customer base from tier 2 and three cities. A spokesperson for Amazon India said the e-commerce giant was responsible for 75 percent of the total customer base during the sale of its ''Great Indian Festival.''

"75 percent of customers came from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, according to the spokesperson. We saw two times more customers from Tier 2 and 3 cities than we had previously reported.

The company''s Christmas sale began on September 23 and will conclude before Diwali next month. The company gave immediate access to Prime members.

During the first 36 hours of its festive season sale, Amazon claims to have recorded the sale of ten lakh unique goods offered by small and medium enterprises and startups.

The company said its Prime member signing ups increased 1.9 times than they did last year, whereas 68% of the total new sign ups were from tier 2 and 3 cities. Amazon charges a fee from Prime users for special services, but sign-ups include both paid and non-paid users.

"It''s a pleasure to see small and medium enterprises, startups, artisans, and women entrepreneurs offer a wide range of services to our customers across India," said Manish Tiwary, the Vice President and Country Manager of India Consumer Business.

Customers indicated preference for television brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, Mi, LG, and Sony. During the present sale, the company''s Amazon Business segment increased by 50%.

"Amazon Business saw about 50 percent growth in customers, more than 100 percent increase in orders over last year, along with a two-fold increase in customers placing bulk orders for their business or corporate gifting needs. "The number of sellers getting at least one business order increased by 23 percent in last year," according to a statement.

Prime members in India have expanded their same-day delivery service to more than 50 major cities and towns.

"Same-Day Delivery within hours is now available in 2.5 times higher pin codes than last year, bringing 14 cities to 50 cities and towns this year, including Surat, Mysuru, Nashik, Nellore, Anantapur, Warangal, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Patna," the company said.
