KEF, a British audio company, has announced a new pair of noise-cancelling headphones. The Mu7 wireless over-ear headphones are on sale today and are now available on the KEF website (opens in a new tab) for $399/ 349 / AU$613.
They''re designed to compete directly with the likes of the most popular noise-cancelling headphones on the market, including the Sony WH-1000XM5, Bose Noise-Cancelling Headphones 700 and Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2 models.
The Mu7 out-of-ear headphones are a collaboration with Ross Lovegrove, a Welsh artist and industrial designer, who was the vocalist of the KEF Muon (opens in a new tab).
According to the marketing material, the headphones are designed to have a sleek and lightweight appearance, and are said to provide a low ear pressure. Memory foam earpads are said to aid in shaping the earcups and headband to the shape of the listener, and a swivel point above the headphones allows the headphones to be rotated and flattened for transport.
KEF Mu7: Features and specifications
With a capacitive touchpad on the right ear cup, users may answer calls, skip tracks, and adjust volume in a range of intuitive taps and swipes. According to KEF, a 15-minute quick charge will last 8 hours of usage, while a full charge will last to 40 hours, although it does not state whether or not it is enabled.
The Mu7, which speaks of ANC, is designed to handle aggressive active noise cancellation techniques and carefully placed microphones to eliminate external noise before it reach the listener''s ears. A 40mm full range dynamic driver is included in each earcup.
Over Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, wireless codec support extends to aptX HD, and you may also connect the headphones into your playback source via a 3.5mm audio connection for uncompressed high-resolution playback from compatible players or dedicated headphone DAC/amplifiers.
The Mu7 headphones are now available directly fromKEF (opens in a new tab) in silver gray and charcoal gray colors. Look out for our full review soon.
