Update: The launch of the product is now on sale, and a range of products is now on sale.
Photos of what appears to be Roku smart home products have been posted, supported by shipping manifests. It follows the company branching out into audio with speakers intended for use in home theater setups.
A photo on Reddit shows a smart light strip similar to the Hue Lightstrip, and another website has posted images of a range of other Roku-branded products.
A user claims that the Reddit photo was apparently taken in a Walmart store and that there are some LED bulbs and security cameras on the computer.
Additional pack shots from Zatz Not Funny as well as links to two shipping manifests. In all, the dozens of leaks show:
The site claims that the components are similar to those of Wyze, and that the camera designs are quite straightforward to identify.
All this is combined with a verified Roku Smart Home channel, and there isn''t much doubt that we can anticipate the products to be officially announced anytime soon.
One useful on-brand solution for Roku would be a light strip that can go behind TVs, and it can sync colors with whatevers on the screen. Philips offers an expensive method to do this, with the hope that Roku might make it more accessible.
It''s absolutely beneficial if Roku streamers directly with the connected lighting to harmonize television content, unlike the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. I can imagine that Rokus grabs a television app by itemizing their home accessories alongside the requisite video cam feeds.
Roku surpassed Tivo, the original smart TV brand, by being more aggressive in its approach, according to Dave Zatz, implying that rebranding existing products is another example.
TiVo had a great opportunity to move into this space once upon a time with $1 billion in the bank. Yet, as has happened the last decade or so, Roku beat them to every punch. Another benefit of Roku''s superiority is that they are operating on their own from scratch or even sharing the same partners.
Roku made itself an even more powerful alternative to Apple TV with Photo Streams, a voice-enabled keyboard, and more. In May, Apple Music was also added to the platform.
Roku has established itself as the standard smart TV choice since its initial launch in 2008 in collaboration with Netflix, offering convenient and low-cost plug-in devices for existing TVs as well as an OS for a variety of smart TVs.
The Roku Smart Home microsite is now live. Products available for sale are:
