India officially launched 5G services on October 1, just a month after Apple''s latest iPhone 14 models were introduced. Despite being 5G capable, iPhone devices can not run 5G in India while they are on Airtel and Jio networks. Worst, iPhone users in India will have to wait a few months before Apple will release 5G software updates to correct this problem.
What several months are you waiting, according to an Apple representative, who said it was planning to release the 5G software updates for iPhone devices in India by December. The company did not disclose the exact date, but it should be put out to everyone by the end of December 2022 or early January 2023.
The full statement given to ET is said to be following:
As soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed, we are working with India''s carrier partners to provide the best 5G experience to iPhone users. 5G will be enabled via a software update and will begin rolling out to iPhone users in December.
Apple is not the only company that will need to implement a software upgrade to enable 5G in its handsets. Companies like Samsung will have to do the same to enable 5G to their users in India. Not all Android devices, unlike iPhone handsets, require a license. All 5G devices, including these devices, must be updated.
