MediaTek Inc., a global fabless semiconductor company, today showcased the Dimensity 1080, the latest chipset in the company''s Dimensity portfolio for 5G smartphones. According to its claims, the new 5G chipset gives better performance along with important enhanced camera features in comparison to its predecessor, the Dimensity 920.

The Dimensity 1080 processor has several new camera features that can be used to capture high-quality photos and videos. A hardware-accelerated HDR video recording technology has been added to the processor for up to 4K resolution.

The sub-6GHz 5G networks are supported, as well as Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It''s good news for gaming enthusiasts, as it will provide them with an uninterrupted gaming experience.

CH Chen, the Deputy General Manager of MediaTek''s wireless communications division, said:

The Dimensity 1080, a mediaTek legacy, offers a whole set of advanced capabilities that will challenge expectations about what a 5G smartphone can do. This new processor is designed to further enhance many of the features that made its predecessor great, including processing power, camera, and video quality, and time to market for manufacturers.

MediaTek''s 5G processor is equipped with two ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores at 2.6GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, as well as support for LPDDR5 memory and two-lane UFS 3.1 storage.

The Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) and the Artificial Processing Unit (APU) have both been unchanged, but both are still capable of working simultaneously. By the end of 2022, smartphones powered by the Dimensity 1080 will be available on the market.
