Apple iPhone users in India may soon be able to use their 5G networks. According to Airtel''s Chief Technology Officer, Randeep Sekhon has said that customers with iPhone models will be able to use the company''s 5G networks in the country. Airtel has said that it has set up networks for the company. The 5G telecom services have been launched in eight cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Bangalore.
According to an Indian Express report, Apple is currently testing 5G services in India. According to Sekhon, the country''s chief technology officer said iPhone users would soon be able to access Airtel''s 5G networks. Sekhon is also quoted as saying that Apple is currently testing 5G in India; we have established special networks for them to test.
According to Sekhon, Airtel would not be sending an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade to make 5G work on smartphones. Instead, the mobile handset manufacturer must push out a software update to enable 5G, according to the report.
In India, iPhone models cannot access the 5G network in the country. According to Apple, iPhone 12 models or later work with the 5G cellular networks of certain carriers. The accessibility to 5G might be unlocked on iPhone models through an OTA update.
At the launch of the India Mobile Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G telecom services in several Indian cities. Reliance Jio will start a beta trial on October 5.
Reliance Jio''s 5G services will be initially available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata by Diwali. Besides, Airtel 5G has been launched in eight cities across India by December 2023, with pan-India coverage planned. The company had placed orders for 5G gears with Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung immediately after the 5G auctions were ended.
