On Friday, the Centre launched a 10,000 word Indian Sign Language (ISL) dictionary mobile application called Sign Learn.
Sign Learn is based on the Indian Sign Language Dictionary (ISLRTC) which contains 10,000 words. It is available in iOS as well as iOS versions, and all the words in the ISL dictionary can be searched through Hindi or English medium, according to officials. The sign videos of the app can be shared on social media.
"The app has been developed to make the ISL dictionary more accessible to the public at large," a senior official said to PTI.
Notably, the International Education Standards Commission (ISAL) had recently signed a legal agreement for the conversion of NCERT textbooks from classes 1 to 12 into the Indian Sign Language (digital format) this year, according to the official.
The Centre had launched ISL versions of selected books from the National Book Trust''s Veergatha series under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
500 academic words in Indian Sign Language were launched with the combined effort of ISLRTC and NCERT. These academic words are often used in history, science, political science, and mathematics, according to the official.
