The Sims 4, a very popular social sim from EA and Maxis, is coming to an end as a free-to-play game very soon. It was first released on PC in 2014, followed by a Xbox One and a PlayStation 4 version in 2017.

"We are excited to continue to engage more players than ever in the quest to create new stories and explore without boundaries," the company said of the move. "The Sims has always been about learning new skills and offers so many opportunities to explore."

As predicted, it''s the base game that is available in this free-to-play format, bringing everything from character creation and build modes to the complete life experience of Sims. The 12 full-fledged expansion packs, the many Game Packs, Stuff Packs, and Kits, the title has received since its launch, will be available as premium DLC. With current pricing, acquiring the lot would cost $1000.

The Sims 4 packs for free are being added to those who have already purchased the game before the free-to-play transformation. EA Play (Get To Work Expansion) and EA Play Pro (Get To Work Expansion and Toddler Stuff Pack).

EA said that its developers will continue to develop new packages for The Sims 4 for "the foreseeable future." A special stream titled "Behind The Sims Summit" will discuss these plans on October 18 at 10 AM PDT on YouTube and Twitch.

The Sims 4 will be available on Windows (EA app, Origin, Steam), macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Starting October 18, 2022, the Sims 4 will be free to download and play on the computer.
